The 2024 Summer School on Modeling, AI, and Complex Systems, held from June 21 to June 30 in the serene Gyulechica, Rila Mountain, Bulgaria, has concluded successfully. This event, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University in collaboration with other institutions, provided an enriching experience for over 30 participants and lecturers from more than 15 organizations worldwide.

The intensive program comprised over 70 study hours and 40 exercise seminar hours, covering more than 20 advanced topics in AI, advanced analytics, and modeling of complex systems. These sessions were meticulously designed to enhance the participants' theoretical knowledge and practical skills through a blend of lectures, workshops, and team projects.

The Summer School featured four real-life case studies, each presenting complex problems that required innovative solutions. Participants collaborated in teams to develop multiple solutions, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter and honing their problem-solving abilities.

All lecture materials, video recordings, and case study solutions are now accessible in the program section of the event's website, providing invaluable resources for future reference and study.

The Summer School’s objectives were clear: to cultivate a scientific mindset among participants, inspire them to apply scientific methods in their research, and permanently shift their attitudes towards scientific inquiry. This mission was achieved through a rigorous schedule that balanced lectures, hands-on workshops, and team assignments. Participants were required to have a strong foundation in Python, R, and other essential software tools, ensuring they were well-prepared to tackle the program’s challenges.

The organizers created a comfortable and conducive environment for learning, which facilitated collaboration and networking. The daily schedule was structured to maximize learning, with dedicated times for lectures, workshops, and independent work on team assignments.

Notable contributors to the success of this Summer School included lecturers and industry experts from various institutions and companies, such as Bosch, Teva Pharma, Smule, and FetchAI. Their expertise and commitment played a crucial role in delivering high-quality education and mentorship to the participants.

The Summer School was supported by the Science and Research Fund at Sofia University. This funding ensured that the event could be offered free of charge to participants, with accommodation costs partially covered by the organizers.

The 2024 Summer School on Modeling, AI, and Complex Systems was a resounding success. It provided a platform for budding researchers to expand their knowledge, engage with complex real-world problems, and network with peers and experts in the field. The availability of comprehensive resources online ensures that the impact of this event will extend beyond its duration, continuing to benefit participants and the wider academic community.
