Representatives of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” took part in the scientific and practical conference “Fiscal Consolidation in Times of Uncertainty”, organized by Bulgaria’s Fiscal Council. The event was held on June 16, 2026, in Hall 1 of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria and brought together representatives of academia, public institutions, expert communities, and the business sector to discuss current issues related to fiscal policy, budget sustainability, and the challenges facing public finances.

FEBA’s participation in the conference is part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between the Fiscal Council and FEBA. The agreement provides for the organization of public events showcasing good practices, as well as specialized roundtables, conferences, and other joint initiatives tailored to the needs of practitioners.

As part of the conference, Prof. Viktor Yotzov, D.Sc., from FEBA participated as a panelist and presented the topic “The Price of Stability: Lessons from Fiscal Consolidation Efforts in Central and Eastern European Countries”. In his presentation, he focused on the experience of countries in the region and emphasized the need for a carefully balanced approach to fiscal consolidation. The topic sparked a lively discussion on possible approaches to reducing budget deficits, the role of expenditure policies, and the importance of sustainable public finance management.

In addition to Prof. Yotzov’s participation as a panelist, other FEBA representatives actively contributed to the subsequent discussion by raising questions and comments related to fiscal sustainability, the efficiency of public spending, institutional mechanisms for fiscal discipline, and the challenges facing Bulgaria in the context of European fiscal rules. Their participation helped deepen the expert dialogue and connect academic perspectives with the practical challenges of fiscal governance.
