During the summer semester, the Master’s program “Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer” at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” hosted an intensive training covering two key subjects: Technology Transfer and Licensing and Commercialization of Intellectual Property and Unfair Competition. The lecturer was Prof. Massimiliano Granieri – a professor of Comparative Private Law at the University of Brescia, Italy, and a director at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The training took place in two parts: online sessions from May 7 to 9, and in-person sessions from May 12 to 16 in Room 128 of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

The course covered topics related to the identification of emerging and competitive technologies and their transformation into innovations. The stages of technology and knowledge transfer were discussed, including the role of technology transfer offices in fostering university entrepreneurship. Participants gained an in-depth understanding of different forms of research commercialization and intellectual property assets that can serve as the foundation for establishing startups and spin-off companies.

With his extensive international experience and long-standing work in the field of innovation law and technology transfer regulation, Prof. Granieri provided a rich and practical perspective, combining legal theory with real-world applications in the European and global context.

During his visit, Prof. Granieri met with the leadership of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration – Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Yalamov, and Program Director Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Kiril Velichkov. The discussion focused on opportunities to continue and deepen the collaboration with Sofia University, including joint initiatives under European programs in the fields of intellectual property, innovation, and technology transfer.
