At the invitation of the Bulgarian Industrial Association, on January 18, 2023, a team from the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) presented the main findings and conclusions of the collective monograph “Challenges to the Bulgarian Economy on the Road to Eurozone Membership” .

Within the four thematic areas Sustainability of public finances and risks to fiscal stability; Real and structural convergence of Bulgaria to the Eurozone; Institutional conditions for eurozone membership; Benefits and risks of joining the Eurozone, Prof. Dr. Vanya Ivanova, Prof. Dr. Stefan Petranov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stella Raleva and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Zlatinov commented on Bulgaria's readiness to join the Eurozone and the potential changes in the conducted economic policy.

Special emphasis during the meeting was placed on the sustainability of processes in the fiscal sphere, cyclical influences and structural characteristics of public finance management; the real and structural convergence of Bulgaria to the Eurozone, the synchronization of the business cycle of individual economies and the expected effect of the common monetary policy; the informal criteria for membership and the importance of the institutions in the process of accession and sustainable functioning of the Bulgarian economy in the Eurozone; the benefits, risks, “bottlenecks”, challenges and possible problem areas in participating in the final stage of the Economic and Monetary Union.
