On December 21, Chief Assistant Dr. Marina Stefanova, Justine Toms and Jane Muita presented online their new book "Leaders for a New Beginning", which was published a few days ago in Bulgarian language, after being published in English in early December. The book is published by Publishing House “Iztok-Zapad”.

Leaders

The three authors and the illustrator Eszter Gombas are of different origins, of different ages and with different professions. They met in 2020 and have since devoted most of their inspiration, time and experience to presenting and outlining the leaders they believe are still lacking to build a better world tomorrow.

Dr. Marina Stefanova

Dr. Marina Stefanova is a multitask, multidisciplinary professional who is capable of working in a multicultural and trans border environment. She believes in sustainable development of markets and societies and she wants to be part of a bigger cause. She looks for solutions of complex problems and may successfully represent a single stakeholder as well as to bring a balance position through the stakeholders’ dialogue for a cause of broader societal importance.

At present, Marina is the chairwoman of the Bulgarian Association of CSR Specialists and a consultant on the Business for Results program at UNICEF in Bulgaria. She is a visiting professor at Sofia University and VUZF University on corporate sustainability and business responsibility.

She is the initiator and director of the multimedia information-educational programme CSR AdviceBox of Kauzi foundation.

 

Justine Toms

Justine Toms is a digital nomad and one of the pioneers of the Bulgarian Internet. University teacher, serial online entrepreneur, book writer – she specialises in digital media and communications and dedicates her professional time to educate, encourage and support talents in this fields.

Her curiosity is toward human interactions in offline and online, how people can collaboratively build together their world and how to improve our communicational skills to make a sustainable and bright future for all.

 

Dr Jane Muita

Dr Jane Muita is the UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria since June 2018. A national of Kenya who served as UNICEF Deputy Representative to Zimbabwe before her arrival in Bulgaria. Dr Muita has been a staff of UNICEF for 21 years and has worked in various countries in Africa both as a manager and team leader and as a technical expert in health, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS. In her two years in Bulgaria Dr. Muita, leads a team that continues to avail data about children and families, to advocate for fulfilment of children’s rights and to propose and test possible solutions to address bottlenecks identified.

Before Joining UNICEF Dr. Muita was Senior Lecturer in the University of Nairobi where she taught in a master’s programme on Applied Human Nutrition and undertook research in public health and Nutrition and focused her efforts in identifying appropriate solutions to improve the living conditions and the nutrition and health status of populations in arid and semi-arid regions and among pastoralist communities. She also served her country as a pediatrician working for the Ministry of health. In 1997 Dr. Muita received the Martin Luther King Junior award for leadership for her contribution in research and interventions in Kenya. Dr Muita has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, and a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics from the University of Nairobi; and a master’s degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University in the USA.

 

Eszter Gombas

For the last sixteen years Eszter Gombas has been actively involved in the method Nonviolent communication as a translator, publisher and facilitator of workshops for communication and empathic skills. She is author of a card deck, designed as a tool for developing empathic literacy. Illustration is a way for her to combine her passion for human psychology and for conveying visual messages that inspire. She has a regular cooperation as an illustrator with the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Sofia and had done various illustrations for other events and products.
