Boyan Rashev, managing partner at denkstatt Bulgaria, will present the guest-lecture “Implementation of Circular Economy – Challenges, Risks and Opportunities” in front of students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University and students from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The lecture will take place at hall 304 of the FEBA building from 6:30pm on 22 April, Monday.
The students from the Netherlands are implementing a Study Project: “Circular Economy and its sub processes: Product Design, Remanufacturing & Production, Distribution, Recycling & Waste Management, Waste Collection, Consumption & Use” and will visit Sofia together with Prof. Dr. Jan Riezebos, Full Professor at the Department of Operations, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. The group will be welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, Vice-Dean at FEBA and Director of the Master's Program "Economics and Management in Energy, Infrastructure, and Utilities".
The idea behind circular economy is not new. There are good examples long ago before the topic became priority in EU policies and regulations. One of the biggest issues related to current EU plans is related with the costs for business and society.
Circular economy is completely applicable for some industries and materials but still many questions appear about its practical implementation. It cannot substitute entirely, but only reduce the need for raw materials.
The lecture will present best practices and case studies from the real business environment – examples of different projects and industries. Also, implementation of industrial symbiosis in Bulgaria.
Mr. Boyan Rashev is one of the leading experts in sustainability management in Bulgaria. Since 2007, he has been a Managing partner at denkstatt – the premier advisory on natural and social capital management in Bulgaria. Boyan has 15 years of work experience in the fields of environmental management, valuation of ecosystem services and impact assessments, climate change mitigation and adaptation, water management and corporate sustainability. His experience also includes workshop moderation, training courses, presentations and dissemination on sustainability and environmental policy topics as well as managing the diverse stakeholders for major projects and institutions in Bulgaria. Boyan has worked with many different businesses including mining, energy, retail, telecoms, food & beverage to financial industry as well as institutions such as Sofia Municipality, Ministry of Environment and Water and European Commission. He is very active in shaping the sustainability agenda in Bulgaria by regularly publishing articles, participating in TV talks and public discussions on critical topics.
He has contributed to several key European research projects. He holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental and Resource Management from Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus, Germany. Boyan Rashev also studied at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and Central University of Venezuela in Caracas.
