On October 21, 2025, Mr. Lyubomir Karimanski, Member of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank, delivered a guest lecture to second-year students from the “Economics and Finance” program (English- and French-taught programs) as part of the course “Theory of Money and Monetary Policy”.
In his lecture, titled “The Different Dimensions of the Digital Euro and Its Interoperability”, Mr. Karimanski focused on the key aspects of the topic, encompassing its economic, technological, and regulatory dimensions. He presented to the students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration the reasons and objectives behind the European Central Bank’s initiative to create the digital euro, as well as its potential impact on monetary policy, financial stability, and the banking sector in Europe. Mr. Karimanski also discussed the opportunities for interoperability within the existing payment systems of the EU member states and the euro area.
During the discussion following the lecture, students had the opportunity to ask Mr. Karimanski questions related to digital currencies and their role in the modern economic system.
The date of the guest lecture coincided with the 123rd anniversary of the founding of the Department of Economics. On this occasion, the Head of the Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Zlatinov, presented Mr. Lyubomir Karimanski with a collective monograph titled "Challenges to the Bulgarian economy on the way to membership in the Eurozone" developed by a team from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in 2022.
On June 4, 2025, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Bulgarian National Bank signed a memorandum of cooperation, providing various opportunities for university students, including participation in discussions organized by the Bulgarian National Bank.
