The Kaleidoscope science dome is once again opening its doors to the residents and guests of Sofia, bringing science to life in an impressive way. It will be located in Knyazheska Garden, right next to the Rectorate of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
Don’t miss the chance to experience the 360-degree immersive journeys “A World at Risk” and “Hope for the Future”, which will be showcased during the fourth edition of the LUNAR Festival of Lights from May 8 to 11, 2025. These visual projections compellingly present scientific facts on climate change, plastic pollution, deforestation, and social inequality. They open space for reflection on our individual roles and raise critical questions such as: Are we capable of adapting to the new reality — and what does that reality look like? The dome transports viewers to some of the planet’s most vulnerable areas, offering a powerful visual journey that illustrates both the global challenges we face today and the possible solutions for a better tomorrow.
Visitors can immerse themselves in science through the expressive power of art between May 8 and 11, with screenings every 10 minutes from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Admission is free.
A Full Daytime Program in 2025
This year, Kaleidoscope also features an exciting daytime program.
On May 9, the dome will host a Visual Science Day for Sustainable Development. From 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, organized school groups from Sofia will have the opportunity not only to watch the films, but also to learn why caring for nature and our world matters. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions with the Kaleidoscope team.
On May 10, the mobile science dome will host the SDG Olympics 2025 – Bulgaria’s first national sustainability competition, simulating real-world sustainability challenges.
On May 11, the dome will be the venue for the Ethi-Citizen Panel – a scientific experiment using an established methodology to explore the potential for attitude change toward sustainable behavior. The session, led by experienced moderators, will involve youth participants and feature brief presentations by experts in sustainable consumption from various sectors. The goal is to provide context and highlight current challenges and initiatives in this critical field.
More About the Project
The Kaleidoscope mobile visual science center is an initiative by ESG Lab and the FEB Foundation, created by scientists from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University. Through impactful visual and sensory storytelling, the project aims to raise awareness on key topics such as environmental protection, energy, water, food, waste, biodiversity, deforestation, poverty, peace, and security. In 2024, Kaleidoscope made its debut during the Visual Science Days event, held from February 29 to March 2 at Arena Sofia, and was featured as part of the official program of the LUNAR Festival of Lights.
The project’s ambition is to bring Kaleidoscope to cities across Bulgaria, making this immersive, science-based experience accessible to as many people as possible.
These powerful visual experiences are created by MP-STUDIO, pioneers in 3D mapping in Europe and the organizers behind the LUNAR Festival of Lights.
