Georgi Yordanov Ganev
Georgi Ganev is an economist, program director at the Centre for liberal strategies, and Chief Assistant Professor at Sofia University’s Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. His main courses are Macroeconomics I, Money, banking and financial markets, and New institutional economics. He was a member of the Governing Board of the Bulgarian Macroeconomic Association in 2003-2014, and its Chair in 2005-2009. In 2021-2024 he was elected in four Bulgarian National Assemblies, where he was a member (in the 45th NA – chair, in the 46th – Deputy chair) of the standing Budget and Finance Committee, as well as a member of the standing Labor, Social and Demographic Policy Committee.
He holds a Ph.D. degree in economics from Washington University in St. Louis. His interests are in monetary history, theory and policy, political economy, transition, development and growth economics, new institutional economics, Austrian economics. His publications relate to Bulgarian economic development, covering topics like political economy, corruption, the mid-1990s Bulgarian currency crisis and exchange rate regime credibility, costs and benefits of joining the euro area, Bulgarian business elites.
Another focus of his work is the problems of economic integration and development in the EU.
