- Among the former full-time faculty members and founders of the Program in Arabic Studies – later established as the Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies – were distinguished scholars such as Corresponding Member Prof. Strashimir Dimitrov (1930–2001), Prof. DSc Penka Samsareva, Prof. DSc Yordan Peev, and Prof. DSc Tzvetan Theofanov.
