DOCTORAL EXAM IN A FOREGN (WESTERN) LANGUAGE – JUNE 2022

  1. Application forms for sitting a doctoral FOREIGN (WESTERN) LANGUAGE exam can only be submitted ONLINE at the following address: gpeeva@uni-sofia.bg by 31 May 2022 at the latest.
  2. The exam in a foreign (western) language will be conducted IN PERSON following a predetermined schedule. Each doctoral student comes to the exam with an original text in the respective language, on which the students has worked in advance (the text should be at least 150 pages and should be related with field of studies of the doctoral student).
  3. Only foreign students will sit the exam ONLINE via the Moodle platform.
  4. The doctoral students who will sit for the exam online will access the Moodle platform with the username and password provided by the faculty at which they have been enrolled as PhD students. The schedule for the online exams will be uploaded on the Moodle platform in the respective examination committee’s space, three days prior to the scheduled date for the exam.

The examination in a foreign language will be organized as follows:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORGANIAING THE EXAMS IN A FOREIGN (WESTERN) LANGUAGE FOR PHD APPLICANTS – JUNE 2022

 

Schedule for the organization of the examinations in a foreign (western) language for PhD applicants

Exams in a foreign (western) language for PhD applicants will be held in June 2022 in person at the Rectorate of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” according to a set schedule. For foreign PhD applicants the exam will take place online in the Moodle platform of Sofia University according to a schedule for which they will receive further specific instructions.

REQUIREMENTS

PhD applicants have to prepare in advance a scientific text of 100 standard printed pages from a monograph in the field of their potential PhD studies. In case PhD applicants are using a print publication, the examination committee will choose an excerpt at the exam. The PhD applicants are expected to read the excerpt, translate it, and produce lexical and morpho-syntactic analysis of the excerpt.

Foreign PhD applicants are supposed to upload the prepared text in PDF format under the specifically created assignment in the respective course in the Moodle platform.

IDENTIFICATION OF THE PHD APPLICANT

Before the beginning of the exam, it is the examination committee’s obligation to check the identity of the applicant. The PhD applicant should show their ID document so that the members of the examination committee can verify that the person sitting the exam is the same as the one entered in the examination protocol. In case of lack of an identification document or any problem relating to the verification of the identity of the PhD applicant all necessary administrative measures will be taken and the exam will be cancelled.
