EATRIS-Bulgaria is an official partner in the BIO-RED international hackathon which will be held from 9 to 11 September 2026 in Sofia Tech Park.
BIO-RED is a 24-month initiative under the Interreg Europe program that supports innovation and investment readiness in biotechnologies focused on medicine and human health in seven European regions. The project connects regional innovation ecosystems, including Bulgaria, and helps partners develop strong business solutions in red biotechnologies. The focus is on three main directions: interregional cooperation, supporting biotech and pharma startups through an accelerator, and promoting digital and green innovations, including AI solutions and sustainable health technologies.
During the interregional hackathon in Sofia, mixed teams from the seven regions participating in the project will work on real-world challenges in the fields of AI diagnostics, biomarker identification, health data sharing and regulatory preparedness, which will help create mature business cases. Highly rated solutions will continue on to mentorship in the biotech and pharma accelerator program.
