17.11.2025

On 14 November 2025, the sport climbing team of Sofia University, part of the University's Sports Department, held an open training session on natural terrain. In the midst of the active autumn season, rock climbing gives students the opportunity to develop skills that are difficult to acquire in an artificial environment – working with natural formations, choosing a route, precise movement, and handling equipment in real conditions.

How the training went

Under the guidance of the coaching team, the climbers went through several key elements:

- Rock movement technique – balance, precise footwork, working on natural edges and holds.
- Top-rope and lead climbing – according to the individual preparation of the participants.
- Safety discussion – clipping, communication, correct body positioning and risk assessment.
- Training series – performing consecutive routes to develop endurance.

Atmosphere and impressions

The training took place in an excellent atmosphere, with high motivation and active support among the participants. For some of the group, climbing at Vrabcha was their first encounter with this site, bringing additional challenges and motivating variety. For the more experienced climbers, the session was valuable preparation for upcoming sporting events.

What’s next

The team plans further autumn and winter sessions – both indoors and outdoors, when conditions permit. Rock climbing it remains a key element in preparation, as it develops complex skills and confidence that carry over into training in an artificial environment.
