The Sports Club at the University dates back to 1929, when on 30th May, a student sports club was founded in one of the auditoriums of the then State University. In the autumn of the same year, the founders of the club organized inter-student athletics competitions for the first time at the playground "Levski" in the capital Sofia and began their traditional holding.
The tradition continues and every year the representative teams of Sofia University perform with dignity in the annual General Student Games, state championships, international tournaments and competitions, student sports meetings.
Together with the Department of Sports, the Sports Club “Akademik” of the oldest higher education institution holds international student tournaments in basketball, beach volleyball, judo, etc.
We believe, even in times of crisis, that student sports will not only be in our memories, since it is a significant part of the culture and, in particular, the sports culture of our nation. Young people from Sofia University have the desire and will to play sports, to develop their personality in harmony between body and spirit. They also accept the challenge of competing for the honor of their Alma Mater.
