The Rector’s body of Sofia University had a meeting with the Ambassador and the Minister of Education of Kosovo

Prof. Dr. Roumen Pankov, Deputy Rector of Sofia University in charge of scientific and project activities, and Prof. Dr. Milena Stefanova, Deputy Rector in charge of the teaching activities, had a meeting with Mr. Arsim Bajrami, Minister of Education of Kosovo and His Excellency Mr. Shpend Kalaba, Ambassador of Kosovo to this country. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Panayot Karagyozov, Dean of the Faculty of Slavonic Philology, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Zhobov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Slavonic Philology, Prof. Dr. Rousana Bejleri, Lecturer in Albanian language and culture at the Department of Balkan Studies at Sofia University.

During the meeting Prof. Pankov briefly sketched out for the guests the history of the oldest and most prestigious high academic institution in this country. Sofia University is in a leading position in all professional walks of life in this country; it provides efficient academic and professional training for students and is the only Bulgarian university included in prestigious international ratings. Prof. Pankov noted that Alma mater pays special attention to scientific research and said that he hoped there would be more joined scientific activities with the Kosovo counterparts. Sofia University comes second in this country concerning the quality of its scientific products, only after the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Pankov pointed out to the subjects which are taught in English and the programme for students’ and lecturers’ mobility.

Mr. Arsim Bajrami expressed his joy of having the opportunity to meet members of the Rector’s body of the most prestigious university in this country. He laid special emphasis on the fact that since 2003 Kosovo has been implementing the regulations of the Bologna convention. The minister showed special interest in the master and doctoral programmes offered by the University and expressed his hope that there would be consolidation of the cooperation between Bulgaria and Kosovo in the area of scientific projects and research work.

Mr. Arsim Bajrami stressed on the reforms in the domain of education that are being carried out in Kosovo at the moment. As he stated, an agreement between the ministries of education of Kosovo and Bulgaria would soon be signed. This will guarantee the increase in the level of cooperation between the two countries in the domain of science. The possibilities for more dynamic students’ and lecturers’ mobility between Bulgaria and Kosovo were also discussed at the meeting.
