In the Future Cities application theme, GATE Institute provides innovative solutions enabling the city to use technology, data and IoT to facilitate effective planning of infrastructure and services, in order to improve the quality of life of the citizens.

Within the city domain visual data can be effectively used to improve city live and contribute to creating sustainable cities. Computer Vision applications can be utilized for these purposes in a number of fields such as smart resources management, risks and safety assessment, infrastructure and traffic monitoring and ecological assessments.

The institute is seeking to appoint Researcher with strong practical background in development and deployment of Computer Vision models to support the team. This role will be actively involved in bringing the developed concepts and research projects to life.

 

Junior researcher (R1) and Experienced researcher (R2) - Computer Vision for Future Cities

 

Responsibilities

Common

  • Perform applied research and development of computer vision methods and models;
  • Design and implement core components of ML data pipelines
  • Design, implement and deploy solutions, which aim to support city authorities in decision making and to provide better quality of life for citizens;
  • Propose applications of computer vision with potential for great impact at city level;
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications;
  • Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends;
  • Engage in appropriate training and development opportunities.

 

One or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Supervising graduate and internships students.
  • Communicate ideas and results with GATE stakeholders.
  • Keep up-to date with funding opportunities and contribute to project proposals.
  • Enthusiastically engage with public and private partners of research program to look for opportunities to focus on specific datasets and problems.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Junior researcher: А minimum of bachelor's or master's degree in in computer science, geoinformatics/geomatics, applied mathematics, engineering, or in a related discipline;
  • Experienced researcher: A PhD Degree in computer science, geoinformatics/geomatics, engineering, or in a related discipline or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 4 years industry-based relevant research experience;
  • Good understanding of fundamental deep learning theory and techniques for Computer Vision;
  • Good programming skills in Python and experience with Machine Learning frameworks and libraries such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, Numpy;
  • Experience with developing Machine Learning models for vision tasks from scratch;
  • Experience with cloud platforms for model development and deployment;
  • Solid oral/written communication and presentation skills in order to explain the outcome of research (and value thereof) to coworkers and peers;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments, and a deep desire to find ways to create value and deliver results.
  • Fluent English is a must.

 

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Good understanding in image processing and classical machine vision methods.
  • Geospatial analytical skills including in QGIS and related software as they apply to urban system dynamics and urban governance applications;
  • Demonstrated academic and other outputs in the form of scientific publications and/or public repositories such as GitHub.

STAGES OF THE CONTEST:

1. The Selection Committee reviews the documents, submitted by the candidates and selects those meeting the requirements of the job, as described in the job profile. The selected candidates will be informed by 5 September 2021.

2. Online interviews will be held with the selected applicants in the period 6-10 September 2021.

3. All interviewed candidates will be notified in writing.

4. The successful candidate will be offered a labour contract.
