The painting of the Bulgarian chapel on Antarctica is starting

The new Bulgarian chapel on Antarctica will be painted during the next Bulgarian expedition, which is starting in a couple of days. The new chapel was built to replace the old one and will be painted after the Bulgarian Orthodox Church tradition, as announced by the leader of the expedition Prof. Pimpirev.

The author of the project, the artist Ganka Pavlova, will also be the one to execute it. She has been teaching for the Vocational School of Ceramic Arts in Sofia and the Art School in Troyan, and had two exhibitions of icons. She is donating her work on the chapel, as well as the materials for the project were donated by patriotic Bulgarians. The main mecenat is the pensioneer teacher Marian Marinov, who donated all his savings at the amount of BGN 13 500, thus making the project possible. The Bulgarian chapel is the first Orthodox one on the ice continent and is named after St Ivan Rilski.
