Sofia University came first among the Bulgarian universities again: in the Ranking Web of Universities for 2013. The results are announced twice a year; in January and July.
The new edition of the ranking is with higher requirements and completely updated. Sofia University holds the 610 position, among 20 000 higher educational institutions around the world.
Sofia University ranks 21st among the universities of Central and Eastern Europe, and 240th in Europe.
Ranking Web of Universities (http://webometrics.info) is based on four criteria to rank the universities: visibility or impact; presence: the total number of webpages hosted in the main webdomain; openness: the number of rich files; and excellence: academic papers published in high impact international journals. The ranking methodology is improved with each edition of the system.
In the January edition, Sofia University ranked 593 in the world by the methodology used for that edition.
