Public lecture delivered by Dr. Mathew Burrows on "Global tendencies 2030: Alternative worlds"

The public lecture by Dr. Mathew Burrows on "Global tendencies 2030: Alternative worlds" was delivered today in the Aula. The event was supported by the USA Embassy and is organized jointly by the National Youth Forum and the Student Diplomatic Club, SU.

The event was opened by representatives of the National Youth Forum and the Student Diplomatic Club, who posed the questions of interest for the young people: "What will the world be like?", and expressed their condolence regarding the Boston tragic events.

A special guest of the event was H.E. Mrs. Marcie Ries, Ambassador of the USA to Bulgaria. She thanked Sofia University for the opportunity to realize the event, the young Bulgarians who are interested in the global questions of the world development. She also expressed her admiration of the beautiful Rectorate building.

Mrs. Ries presented Dr. Mathew Burrows, who held a number of high positions in CIA and National Intelligence Council (NIC), currently a director of the Analysis and Production Staff (APS), NIC.

Dr. Mathew Burrows talked about the goals and mission of the National Intelligence Council and noted that the main goal is not to predict but to analyse and research different events in a variety of fields, thus helping to solve a variety of problems.

His report was focused on the mega-trends: these which happen regardless of the scenarios of the future of the world; the factors which change the game: important tendencies which change their trajectory during the next 20 to 50 years, finally presented as Alternative worlds.
