The solemn ceremony took place in Hall 1 of the Rectorate.
The award was initiated by the Faculty of Law. Prof. Sasho Penov opened the ceremony by restating the decision of the Faculty Assembly to give the award in recognition of Prof. Jacque's significant contribution to science and to Sofia University, being a lecturer in the international Master's Degree Programme "EU Law".
Prof. Jean Paul Jacque is renowned for his work in the field of EU law. He was Director of the Legal Service of the EU Council, and currently its Honorary Director. He is also a corresponding member of the Institute of European Law - Sofia. His well-known textbook on EU law was issued in Bulgarian in 2007. He is an author of more than 200 works on constitutional, administrative, international law and EU law.
Prof. Ilchev awarded Prof. Jacque with the Blue Ribbon Insignia. In his academic speech, Prof. Jacque stated his appreciation of the honour to be awarded Sofia University prestigious insignia.
