International conference on "Iran and the Balkans mirrored through history"

The conference started in the Aula today.

The event is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the foundation of Alma Mater and the 20th anniversary of speciality Iranian Studies. It will be held on 28th and 29th May, during the second day it will be hosted by the Centre for Eastern Languages and Studies.

The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Ivo Panov, scientific Secretary of the conference. The official ceremony was attended by H.E. Abdollah Norouzi, Ambassador of Iran, Prof. Arsalan Ghorbani, Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran, Prof. Tsvetan Teofanov, Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, students and lecturers.

Assoc. Prof. Ivo Panov shared than the conference attracted great interest with more than 335 reports. He also noted that 20 years might not seem a lot compared to the 125th anniversary of the University, but they gave confidence in going deeper in an unlimited spiritual space. Teaching Persian dates back to 1959 in the Faculty. Today more than 100 graduates of the speciality have found their professional realisation in ministries, in the fields of culture and science, as well as tourism and trade.

The Ambassador of Iran, H.E. Abdollah Norouzi, thanked the students, lecturers and friends of the Iranian culture and literature, the organizing committee of the conference and its guests. He expressed his hope that the conference will be a step towards closer relations between the Iranian and the Balkan peoples.

Prof. Tsvetan Teofanov, Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, congratulated the speciality for the jubilee on behalf of the deans and the academia. He also noted that the speciality Iranian studies has gained its place as a good and attractive speciality among the 19 specialities of the Faculty. He acknowledged the respectful theme of the conference which gathered renowned specialists from different countries.

Prof. Ghorbani addressed the audience by expressing his appreciation of being among friends of the Persian language and culture. He noted that the goal of the conference is further development of the relations among the peoples. He added that such meetings contribute to development of good relations between countries and presentation of their culture.
