The latest edition of the "Innovations in Agribusiness" Academy took place from March 18 to 20, 2025 at "Peroto" Literary Club at the National Palace of Culture – a forum focused on digital transformation and technological solutions in the agricultural sector. The event gathered over 100 participants – entrepreneurs, scientists, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, the public sector, and media.
A special highlight was placed on the results of the RTIT project – Knowhow Communities for Accelerating RTI Transfer in the Danube Region, funded by the Interreg Danube Program. Presentations on the topic were made by Assoc. Prof. Daniela Ventsislavova Georgieva (from the Institute for Economic Studies at BAS and the Applied Research and Communications Foundation) and Prof. Teodora Georgieva (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski").
In her presentation, Assoc. Prof. Daniela Georgieva emphasized policies and strategic frameworks for innovation and smart specialization in the Danube region countries, focusing on the active involvement of enterprises in the global innovation processes. Innovative biomaterials and their applications were also among the current topics addressed by the researcher.
Prof. Teodora Georgieva shared best practices aimed at increasing the innovation capacity of Bulgarian regions and enterprises, based on knowledge communities for accelerating the transfer of research, technologies, and innovation in the Danube region. Discussions also covered topics such as sustainable practices in agribusiness, innovative materials, and technologies.
The event reaffirmed the need for an interdisciplinary approach that brings together academia, business, and administration in the pursuit of a sustainable and competitive agribusiness sector.
The Academy highlighted the key role of innovation as a driver of competitiveness in the agricultural economy and established itself as a platform for knowledge exchange and partnership building in the context of transitioning to sustainable development models.
