Directors and teachers from schools in Sofia participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) training seminar. The event was organized by the Sofia Development Association (Sofia Municipality) in partnership with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the Ministry of Education and Science, Microsoft Bulgaria and with the support of the Prevention, Integration, Sports and Tourism (PIST) Directorate and the Education Department of Sofia Municipality.

The training took place at the Sofia Lab for Innovations (Sofia Lab), where, on June 19th, the STEM training resources, the results from its pilot implementation and the project financing opportunities were demonstrated.

The presentation was done by Dr. Teodora Varbanova and Desislava Popova from Microsoft. Teodora Varbanova holds a PhD in Innovation from FEBA. In STEM training, "the teacher is a mentor and the student is a researcher," said Dr. Varbanova, demonstrating the results of the first pilot project, applied at 122 Secondary School. Atanas Terziev, a teacher, and students from grades 5-7 presented two models: 1) Brain simulator: allows students to study in which sports games there is the greatest risk of head injuries, then to construct a human brain experimenting with strokes in different sectors and finding out, respectively, what motor and emotional states they affect. The final step is the design of a protective helmet. 2) Robotic Fish - students work with the growingly popular robotic fish that are used not only for the study of seabeds but also the of study the pollution of oceans and seas.
