The Mayor of Pernik Municipality Stanislav Vladimirov and the Rector of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev signed a memorandum of cooperation between the municipal administration and the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria. The document outlines joint initiatives in education, scientific research, and local economic development, fostering closer ties between academia and local governance.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Pernik Stefan Krastev, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Savina Mihaylova-Goleminova.

"This partnership is an important step towards strengthening the connection between academia and local self-government. I believe that our joint projects will bring tangible benefits to the city and its residents", said Mayor Vladimirov. He added that students would have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real working environment. "At the same time, the local administration will be able to leverage the university's expertise in implementing key policies for the development of Pernik", he further stated.

Prof. Valchev emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and local authorities. "It is crucial for us to establish strong relationships with municipalities across the country. Sofia University is ready to provide expert analysis, scientific support, and assistance in developing innovative projects that will contribute to the sustainable development of Pernik", he added. Prof. Valchev also noted that students would have the opportunity to participate in practical programs, gaining valuable experience to better prepare them for their professional careers.

The agreement includes joint conferences and training sessions, student internships within the municipal administration, exchange of best practices, and collaborative applications for various projects and programs. Additionally, public events and discussions will be organized to raise public awareness and strengthen ties between the university, local government, and businesses.
