On March 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. in room 400, the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" organizes a public discussion with students about Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone.

In the public discussion will take part Prof. Stefan Petranov, Prof. Vania Ivanova, Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Zlatinov, Assoc. Prof. Milen Velushev, Assoc. Prof. Stela Raleva and Chief Assist. Prof. Daniel Kasabov from the Department of Economics. They will discuss issues related to the following:

  • the institutional conditions for Bulgaria's membership in the Eurozone;
  • the degree of legal convergence and the challenges in this direction;
  • the sustainability of public finances in Bulgaria and the risks to fiscal stability;
  • the real and structural convergence of Bulgaria towards the Eurozone;
  • price dynamics in Bulgaria and catch-up processes;
  • the benefits and risks of our country joining the Eurozone.

The public discussion focuses on the main conclusions from the collective monograph "Challenges to the Bulgarian economy on the way to membership in the Eurozone" , developed by a team from the "Economics" department. It assesses the macroeconomic, institutional, and sectoral effects of the complex and wide-ranging process of accession to the Eurozone, affecting all spheres of the Bulgarian economy.

Students from all majors and courses of the Faculty of Economics, their colleagues from other faculties, teachers, and researchers are invited to the public lecture discussion.
