The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Eleonora Stancheva-Todorova, head of the program.

“I can confidently say that our program is already recognized as a bridge between academic knowledge and business practice. We are training interdisciplinary experts who are proficient in International Financial Reporting Standards, understand tax mechanisms, master the principles of non-financial reporting and corporate sustainability, as well as the European taxonomy regulations and Omnibus reforms—knowledge that the business sector needs today and will need even more in the future”, she stated.

Panel 2: The Taxonomy and Corporate Financing in the Context of Omnibus 2
With the participation of Ms. Desislava Bulgaranova – expert and lecturer in the program, and Ms. Darina Tsukeva – ESG Strategy Expert, UniCredit Bulbank.

Both panels were moderated by students from the “Accounting and Sustainability” Master’s program – Miroslava Balkanska and Tsvetoslav Yordanov, highlighting the active involvement of students in the learning process.

The discussions were dynamic, featuring questions from the audience and practical insights from the panelists. One of the key topics was the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Omnibus projects, given the resistance from businesses and investors to the simplification of regulations. Despite this, participants agreed that the sustainability reporting process is already underway and irreversible.

Prof. Snejana Basheva, member of the Management Board of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPA), also participated and emphasized the importance of the “Accounting and Sustainability” program for developing new competencies among accountants. She highlighted this as a key area of collaboration between ICPA and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Stancheva:

“This is not just an event—it is another step toward building an active, knowledgeable, and responsible generation of professionals who will drive the sustainable transformation forward.”

A video recording of the discussion will soon be published on the webpage of the “Accounting and Sustainability” Master’s program on the faculty’s website.

Stay tuned for the next event in September, dedicated to the topic of sustainability.
