The International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM), with more than 50 000 members from over 140 countries, bestowed Professor Stoyko Fakirov, alumnus and former Vice-Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, with its 2017 Medal for Notable and Outstanding Research in the Advanced Materials Science &Technology.

The Medal was given at the Award Ceremony of the International Association of Advanced Materials, held on the 22nd of August 2017 at the European Advanced Materials Congress, Stockholm, Sweden. The Award "IAAM Medal - 2017" is an acknowledgement for the Prof. Fakirov’s achievements in the development of new polymer-polymer nanomaterials, one component nanofibrillar polymer nanocomposites as well as for the development of a new technology for converting practically any bulk polymer into nanomaterial with controlled morphology.

Prof. Stoyko Fakirov was long years a lecturer in Polymer Science at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Sofia University and since his retirement 17 years ago he is a Visiting Professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Last year, Prof. Stoyko Fakirov was bestowed with the highest possible award of Sofia University - entry into the Honorable Book of the Sofia University.
