A Bulgarian student has become world champion in the biggest world IT competition

Georgi Boshev, a native to the town of Nesebur and a VIth form student at the Geo Milev Burgas English Language School, scored first in the Microsoft Office World Wide Championship, 2016, held in Orlando, Florida, 7 -- 11 August, 2016. He won in the competition with 400 000 participants from more than 130 countries.

Georgi Boshev, together with four other Bulgarian students, took part in the competition within the Microsoft YouthSpark – Career in IT Project carried out by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Alumni Association at Sofia University (FEBA Alumni) with the financial support of Microsoft.

“I am truly happy that I managed to certify for that level. I will keep on studying IT although my main interest is in the domain of medicine. I take part in all school events related to IT“, Georgi Boshev said.

Dimitrina Todorova, Georgi Boshev’s IT teacher, remarked that for the past three years he has been working very diligently with Sofia University faculty as part of the Career IT Project to participate in world competitions. Boshev has certified for the Microsoft Office 2010 Specialist Master and Microsoft Word 2013 Expert levels. “Personally, I hope that the success he has scored will stimulate the colleagues from the domain to work more actively with students so that the latter will get better results. Georgi proved that hard work and practice make the master", Dimitrina Todorova added.

Nikolay Netov, a Sofia University Faculty of Economics and Business Administration lecturer and leader of the Microsoft YouthSpark – Career in IT Project, said that Georgi Boshev’s success has come as a result of his four-year work as part of the Microsoft YouthSpark – Career in IT Project team, targeting 20 000 students from this country’s high schools, including young people from parts of the country most seriously hit by unemployment. “These enthusiastic young people are given access to ICT training by Microsoft Imagine Academy, entrepreneurial training, career development courses and consultations; they are also given the opportunity to make use of the existing resources and acquire experience through mentorship. For the academic year 2015/2016 the highest level of internationally recognized professional certificates, Microsoft Office Specialist and Microsoft Technology Associate, have been awarded to 900 students“, Nikolay Netov pointed out.

FEBA was founded in 2004 by 33 Faculty of Economics and Business Administration alumni. The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration is a leading institution in this country in the domains of teaching and research in economics and management. According to the rating system of the high academic institutions in this country, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration occupied one of the top positions in the domain of Administration and Management, and Economics for the period 2011-2014.

Microsoft YouthSpark is a global initiative of Microsoft aiming at securing access for all young people to studying computer sciences, thus, helping them manifest their potential and that of their families and their communities.
