GATE Centre of Excellence “Big Data for Smart Society” is a research institute, established in 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria as a joint initiative between Sofia University Bulgaria, Chalmers University of Technology (Chalmers) and Chalmers Industrial Technology (CIT), Sweden.

GATE mission is to:

  • Establish a world-class ecosystem for basic and applied Big Data and Artificial Intelligence research and innovation
  • Be a focal point between academia, government and industry for Big Data and Artificial intelligence domain

Serve as a catalyst for economic growth based on data-science innovation, digitalization, and knowledge-based entrepreneurship across various economic sectors.

Applicants for this position should have experience in the field of information technology, and knowledge and skills in semantic technologies and data sharing.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art neural network models.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to apply ML solutions to real-world problems.
  • Design and execute experiments, including dataset preparation, model training, and evaluation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in deep learning and ML.
  • Design and implement automated ML pipelines.
  • Participation in the development and maintenance of software, including designing, programming, testing, documenting, and implementing software and architectural solutions.
  • Identifying technical issues and providing effective solutions.
  • Ensuring the quality and security of developed software solutions.
  • Monitoring industry trends and applying modern technologies or approaches.
  • Analysing potential improvements in software solutions during or after development.
  • Participating in meetings with clients to clarify requirements.
  • Assigning tasks and ensuring compliance with set deadlines.
  • Timely reporting on project progress and informing about any changes in execution.
  • Providing documentation and training on the technologies and systems used.
  • Participating in the implementation of new technological solutions in the Institute.
  • Preparing operational reports and analyses on the status, issues, and development opportunities of the Institute's proprietary software.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Higher education in one of the following fields and disciplines: technical and computer sciences, mathematics, informatics, communication, and computer engineering;
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience for the position, with at least 3 year of professional experience in the relevant field;
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with various technologies and products (the list is not exhaustive or final):

1. Programming: Excellent proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, C#, PHP, etc.).

2. Software Architecture: Understanding of software design principles, including modeling, modularity, and scalability.

3. Databases: Experience with relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and non-relational databases (MongoDB, Firebase).

4. Algorithms and Data Structures: Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and their application for performance optimization.

5. API and Web Services: Experience with RESTful and SOAP APIs, external service integration, and backend service development.

6. Version Control: Proficiency in version control systems such as Git (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).

7. Testing and Debugging: Knowledge of automated testing techniques (unit, integration, end-to-end) and debugging tools.

8. Cybersecurity: Fundamental principles of software security (authentication, data protection, encryption).

9. DevOps and CI/CD: Experience with development automation tools and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Strong understanding of neural networks and deep learning architectures (Transformers, LLMs, RNNs, Graph Neural Networks, Computer Vision etc.)
  • Experience in ML model development, including algorithm selection, fdata preparation, feature engineering, model training, hyperparameter tuning.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, probability, and mathematical foundations of ML.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and passionate about applied research.
  • Strong ability to analyze and solve real-world problems using ML techniques.
  • Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Ability to collaborate and work in teams with international partners;
  • Motivation for professional development and a passion for work;
  • Fluency in English.

Stages of the contest:

1.The Selection Committee reviews the documents, submitted by the candidates and selects those meeting the requirements of the job, as described in the job profile. The selected candidates will be informed by October 23, 2025.

2.Online interviews will be held with the selected applicants until October 24,2025.

3.All interviewed candidates will be notified in writing.

4.The successful candidate will be offered a labour contract.
