Junior Researcher (Level 1) (R1) – Semantic Compatibility for Data Spaces

The GATE Institute is seeking to hire established researchers in the field of semantic interoperability for data spaces.

Data spaces are an extremely innovative field that is gaining increasing popularity at the European and regional levels as a key element of the future data-driven economy. Data spaces provide an environment that facilitates secure and trusted data exchange among participants in the spaces and offer a comprehensive framework covering the technological, business, and organizational aspects of this exchange. The researchers will be involved in an international project featuring two of Europe’s most prestigious research institutes—the Norwegian institute SINTEF and the Irish institute INSIGHT. The project aims to establish a framework for knowledge transfer among the partners and to develop a visionary scientific strategy for improving research capacity in the field of data space interoperability. The project’s results will be applied to drive innovation in areas of significant social and economic importance.

Candidates for this position must have experience in the field of information technology and knowledge and skills in the field of semantic technologies and data sharing.

Main Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent research with a scientific and applied focus in the field of semantic interoperability for data spaces;
• Develop techniques and models for semantic data interoperability;
• Apply the results of scientific work to innovative solutions;
• Pursue independent (yet complementary) research interests and collaborate with a wide range of researchers both within and outside the Institute;
• Presents formal and informal updates on research progress to colleagues, sponsors, and stakeholders;
• Prepares presentations to disseminate research findings at the national and international levels;
• Contributes to the creation of high-quality scientific publications;
• Participate in developing working relationships with GATE’s external partners;
• Develop your professional skills and participate in training and events related to the exchange of experience;

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, software engineering, or a related technical field;
• Experience in the field of semantic technologies is a plus;
• Knowledge of the principles, tools, and technologies for data sharing;
• Experience working in a team with international partners;
• Motivation for professional development and a passion for research;
• Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to present research results (and their value);
• Excellent command of English.
