Press conference on the 125th anniversary of Sofia University

The programme of the official celebrations of the 125th jubilee was presented in the Conference Hall today.

The Rector, Prof. Ilchev, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of History, Assoc. Prof. Todor Pandelov and the members of the celebration committee Prof. Amelia Licheva, Assoc. Prof. Georgy Vulcgev, Assoc. Prof. Milen Bogdanov, Assist. Prof. Ani Burova, Assist. Prof. Daria Petkova and Lidia Dragoeva presented the major events on the celebration programme.

The motto of the 125th jubilee of the oldest higher educational institution in Bulgaria is "Knowledge Makes Strength"

ДAssoc. Prof. Vulchev noted that the lecturers and students of Alma Mater have started series of presentations in the biggest municipalities under a common title "Days of Sofia University".

He acknowledged the cooperation with the British Council, Sofia Municipality and the Association of the Architects in Bulgaria.

One of the most important events on the programme is the annual forum of UNICA (Universities from the Capitals of Europe), which is to be held in Sofia this year. The topic of the forum is the division of the financial responsibilities between the society and the families in supporting student education.

Assoc. Prof. Popendelev informed about the preparations of the Third international conference on Bulgarian Studies which is to be held between 23 and 26 May, 2013. It is organized by University Complex of Humanity Studies Alma Mater, in cooperation with BAS and Sofia Municipality and is under the patronage of the President Mr. Rosen Plevneliev. The event is organized without state funding, as noted the Rector.

Lyubov Kostova, Country Manager of British Council in Bulgaria, defined the 125th anniversary of the University as a national event. She talked about the Science Fair (to be held on 9th May) and the popular competition FameLab as part of the fair.
