At a formal ceremony held in "The Egg" hall at the University of Sofia's Rectorate, the "Mark of Quality" awards were presented for the sixth time. The Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) received the award in the "Sustainable Development" category. This recognition honors achievements over the past three years or more, and the award coincides with the 120th anniversary of the Department of Economics' establishment.
In the same category, a team from the FEBA was also nominated, including the following members:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marina Stefanova (Vice-Dean), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev (Dean), Prof. Dr. Sc. Tsvetan Davidkov, Prof. Dr. Sc. Zhelyo Vladimirov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Savina Mihaylova-Goleminova, Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Mariya Trifonova, Dr. Justine Toms, Dr. Plamen Dimitrov, Elitsa Barakova, Prof. Dr. Sc. Sonya Mileva-Bozhanova, Prof. Dr. Georgi Mengov, Prof. Dr. Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Emil Mitov, Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Martina Arabadzhieva, Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Petar Tashev, Boyan Petrov (Facility Manager), Lilia Dobreva (Housekeeper), and the flower maintenance team. They were nominated for their holistic approach to sustainable development integrated into the curriculum, campus, and student lifestyle.
The "Mark of Quality" awards were presented in three categories:
- Sustainable Development – recognizing results achieved over the past three years or more.
- Successful Change – highlighting good practices implemented in at least one of the past three years.
- Significant Innovation – focusing on innovations within the last year that have the potential to enhance the quality of university activities.
Maria Gureva, from the Career Development Sector, received an award in the "Successful Change" category for substantial improvements in processes related to the university's participation in international rankings.
In the "Significant Innovation" category, awards were given to the University Theater "Alma Alter" and a team from the Burgas branch of the University of Sofia and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The team was recognized for their efforts in providing a novel educational model emphasizing sustainable "school-university-business" connections.
In this category, another FEBA team was nominated, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marina Stefanova (Vice-Dean), Antoaneta Ivanova, and Magdalena Marteva, for their mobile visual science center project "Kaleidoscope".
The "Mark of Quality" ceremony has been held annually since 2018, initiated by the Rector's leadership and the University's Quality Management Center. The award is unique and reflects the University's commitment to fostering best practices and achievements among its academic community and administration.
Nominations for the award can include individual lecturers or staff, as well as teams, departments, or other units contributing to high-quality standards at the University.
Prof. Dr. Sc. Sonya Mileva, Vice Rector of the University of Sofia, congratulated the attendees, saying:
"Today is a celebration for us because, beyond working towards our goals in education and science, we also recognize the successes of our colleagues. This event uniquely highlights those who have made the most significant contributions to the University's prestige and development".
She emphasized the difficulty of choosing winners due to the numerous high-quality candidates, a testament to the award's prestige within the academic and administrative communities, supported by the Student Council. She concluded by stating that all participants deserved applause.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaloyan Haralampiev, Head of the University Quality Management Center, thanked everyone who attended and opened the presentation of the nominees from various categories. Each nominee was introduced through a short video, and the winners of the "Mark of Quality" received a certificate and plaque from the University Rector, Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev. All nominees received certificates from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaloyan Haralampiev.
