The ceremony celebrating the success of the students and doctoral students of the oldest Bulgarian university was held in the Hall of the Rectorate of Sofia University. The Student of the Year competition is the most prestigious event organized by the Student Council every year. It is held under the patronage of the Rector of Alma Mater and aims to support the development of students and PhD students and to distinguish the best of them.

The event was attended by the Rector of Sofia University Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Prof. Genka Petrova, Chairman of the Student Council Antonio Stoichkov, deans, professors, representatives of the University Board, students and their guests. The ceremony was also broadcasted live on the Student Council's Facebook page.

This year, 115 students participated in the competition, divided into 12 categories. In the category "Economic Sciences" the winner is Daniel Petrov. He is the winner of the FEBA Alumni Club "Together Forward" scholarship and the DZI "History with a Future" scholarship. Currently, Daniel Petrov is Deputy Chairman of the Student Organization "Business Club" and is actively involved in the development and expansion of the student community of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration by organizing various cultural and environmental events. His passion for photography also brought him an award in the Erasmus + photo exhibition competition with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University: A Window to My Europe. His work on "Lessons for Economics and Education from the COVID-19 Pandemic" was awarded a diploma for successful performance in the seventeenth competition "Young Economist" 2021. Among his recent appearances is his nomination in the category of Marketing, Advertising and PR in the competition "Talent of the Year”, organized by To The Top Agency.

In the category "Economic Sciences" in second and third place were Dimitrina Vasileva, a student at the master's program Business Administration and Management and Entrepreneurship and Karolina Varbanova, a student at the master's program Applied Econometrics and Economic Modeling in English. Dimitrina Vasileva shows excellent results in the master's degree disciplines, having previously graduated in Computer Science from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University, where as a student she participated in a teaching team and led programming workshops as a part-time assistant. She is currently part of a team responsible for software development in the automotive industry. Dimitrina Vasileva is in the process of certification as a Scrum master.
