The degree in history and geography was established in Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" at the beginning of the 20th c. After an interruption of several decades, it was reestablished in 1999. Education relies on the joint efforts of the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Geology and Geography. It includes basic theoretical education in history, geology and geography, and pedagogical subjects. The studies cover 4 academic years (8 semesters) and include core courses, optional and supplementary subjects. The list of optional subjects is open and is actualized every year. Students graduate with a written State Examination and acquire the educational and professional degree of Bachelor - Teacher of History and Geography. They can continue their education in the Master's Programs in History, Geography or other degrees in the Humanities and apply for doctoral studies. Graduates can work as teachers, specialists in museums and other research and cultural institutes, which require a Bachelor's degree and knowledge in history and geography.
