On July 4, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Petkov (Faculty of Physics) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev (Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration) presented a co-authored report with the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Professor Dr. Sc. Georgi Raynovski. They showcased the joint master's program "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations" during the "International Conference on Nuclear Knowledge Management and Human Resources Development", organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
The report by the authors from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski," titled "Challenges in Development of Nuclear Technology Management Education Programme" was presented in the session "University Education for Nuclear" which also featured experiences shared by other universities from Australia, the Russian Federation, the USA, and Hungary, as well as experts from the IAEA.
In early March 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" enrolled a class of 17 master’s students in the new program, which will become part of the internationally accredited nuclear academy of the IAEA – the International Nuclear Management Academy (INMA).
The master's program "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations" falls under professional field 3.7 "Administration and Management" lasts four semesters, and is conducted entirely in English, with admissions taking place each January.
The programs included in the INMA initiative are aimed at current and future managers working in the nuclear energy sector as well as in non-energy applications. INMA is part of the nuclear knowledge management activities of the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Energy.
Only 11 universities worldwide have IAEA accreditation to offer training in such programs.
