Associate Professor Dr Maria Baramova from the Faculty of History received the Prize of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften) for 2021.

On 26 November 2021, Associate Professor Dr Maria Baramova received the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities Prize of Excellence for 2021 at a special ceremony. The event took place in the Nikolaisaal concert hall in Potsdam during the Einstein Day celebrations.

Associate Professor Dr Baramova was awarded for her outstanding scientific work on the history of the Balkans in the Early modern period. The President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dr h. c. mult. Christoph Markschies presented her with the diploma. He expressed his hope that Associate Professor Dr Baramova's works would soon reach German-speaking readers.

The award is funded by the Peregrinus Foundation (Rudolf Meimberg). It is presented every two years to one researcher from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe for outstanding scientific achievements in various academic fields.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Maria Baramova is a lecturer in Early Modern Balkan History at the Department of History of Byzantium and the Balkans at the Faculty of History of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. She is the Head of the University Centre for Quality Management and an Expert Board member of the Center for Regional Studies and Analyses at the Faculty of History.
