Common responsibilities
- Conducts high-quality research in the field of applications of Big Data and AI technologies to biomedical data;
- Disseminates research findings, results and achievements within the research community, through publications and participation in academic conferences/journals;
- Works with the Research Group Leader, to define new Master and PhD projects, holds interviews with candidates and co-supervise the students;
- Understands application domain needs and devises possible solutions;
- Plays a leading role in writing project proposals for internal and external research funding;
- Builds effective collaborations with both GATE academic and industry partners at national and international level;
- Engages in continuous professional development and keep up-to-date with latest Big Data and AI technology trends and their applications to biomedical data, is committed to professional development of his/her own career and acts as mentor for less experienced colleagues.
One or more of the following responsibilities
- Explores, proposes and validates new methodologies for engineering of Big Data and AI pipelines for analysis of biomedical data and Data Science projects;
- Researches and develops Digital Twins and designs a Digital Twin platform for modeling, simulation and visualization of Genetic and health records data;
- Extends state-of-the-art standards and ontologies to cover GATE application themes and develop various data models of healthcare systems, etc.;
- Proposes new solutions for storage and maintenance of Digital Twin models beyond the standard databases, dealing with various spatial and temporal scales of representations.
Skills, experience and qualifications
Essential
- A PhD Degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Information systems, Informatics, Data Science, AI or related field or a Master’s Degree in the same areas plus a minimum of 7 years industry-based relevant research experience;
- Experience in analyzing data from microarray experiments, Next Generation Sequencing experiments, longitudinal studies or health records;
- Advanced programming skills in Python, R, Java, C++ or other programming languages;
- Research excellence evidenced via a portfolio of substantial contribution to the advancement of knowledge, research and development in the field of analysis of biomedical, genetic or similar data;
- Significant research co-operations and collaborations;
- Publications as a first or senior author;
- Experience in conducting independent research, in relation to novel and/or complex ideas, which advances the research agenda, demonstrating ability for identifying research problems, opportunities, appropriate methodologies and approaches;
- Vision, ambition, and passion for research, and a strong publication track record in top conferences and journals in the biomedical, Data Science, AI, ML, Computer Science and other relevant research fields;
- Creative problem-solving skills to analyze and solve complex scientific and application domains problems;
- Proven ability of building collaborative relationships internally, as well as at European and international level;
- Experience in leading the execution of collaborative research projects in cooperation with colleagues and project partners and being capable of forming research consortia and ability to secure research funding;
- A seasoned communicator able to present effectively the results and the broader implications and applications of their research to the research community and wider society;
- Fluency in English is a must.
Experience with one or more of the following
- Experience in utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods;
- Experience in utilizing HPC resources for performing large-scale computations;
- Experience in development of multidimensional simulation data models;
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive data for research;
- Experience with large scale databases for data acquisition, ingestion and modelling.
