MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM /AFTER COMPLETED SECONDARY EDUCATION

 

The program aims at offering theoretical knowledge and practical skills through highly qualified teaching combined with opportunity to exercise it in practice in the most modern preclinical and clinical medical complexes in Bulgaria. The training course in Medicine is conducted on the basis of a curriculum which is made according to the Unified state requirements for the master’s degree in the specialty “Medical Doctor” and the qualification of a General Practitioner. The curriculum also satisfies the regulations of the Directive 2005/36/EC of September, 7, 2005 and its amendments, on the recognition of the professional qualifications of medical doctors in Europe. The study course duration is 6 years (12 semesters).

A combined written admission exam has to be passed, consisting of two components – a test in Biology, and a test in Chemistry containing multiple choice questions and short written answer questions. The examination is carried out in English. The topics of Biology and Chemistry cover the material taught in secondary school. The duration of the admission exam is three astronomic hours. Only applicants who have passed both components of the exam are eligible for ranking. The components contribute to the final grade as follows: 50 % Biology, 50 % Chemistry. The applicants can sit for the entrance exam – tests in chemistry and biology in English language once or twice (optional) and they will be ranked on the basis of their results. Ranking will be done in descending order of the grades from the admission exams. For applicants who have passed the exams on the two dates, the higher grade is considered for ranking.

 

PREPARATORY COURSES

The Medical faculty of SU organizes short-term preparatory course in Biology and Chemistry:

September, 08-09, 2026, 9.00 – the fee is 300 ЕURO.

The courses will take place at the building of Hospital Lozenetz, Hall № 501, 1407 Sofia, 1 Kozyak Str.

Information and registration: by September 05, 2026 – Deans’ office of the Faculty of Medicine, room № 6, Mrs Kristina Stoyanova /tel. +359 2 9607 550/. The tuition fee for the preparation course has to be paid to the bank account of Faculty of Medicine (IBAN: BG90 BNBG 9661 3100 1224 01; BIC: BNBGBGSD), prior to the registration date.

 

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS:

  1. APPLICATION FORM - filled in and signed by the applicant
  2. A legalized copy of the applicant`s Diploma for completed secondary education and its Supplement (if any) that specifies the period of attendance and the grades (including the grades in Biology and Chemistry) – legalized according to state requirements in the country of origin of the document/s and officially translated into Bulgarian by a certified agency and the Certificate for acknowledged secondary education issued by the National Centre for Information and Documentation in Bulgaria containing the grades recalculated according to the Bulgarian grade system.
  3. A document issued by a competent body certifying the applicant`s eligibility to continue their studies at universities in the country in which the applicant has completed their secondary education -legalized according to state requirements in the country of origin of the document/s and officially translated into Bulgarian by a certified agency.
  4. A photocopy of the applicant`s ID document with a photograph and a full name legibly written in the Latin alphabet and indicating the place and date of birth.
  5. 2 recent photographs of the applicant (passport format).
  6. Receipt for paid application fee.
  7. Receipt for paid exam fee.

All documents must be submitted in person or via a representative with a notarized power of attorney at the Central building of Sofia university.
