ECONOMIC HISTORY – Part one

 

Period: First year, Second semester

ECTS credits: 2

Class hours: 30 lectures

Language: Bulgarian or French

Requirements: the course is delivered in two parts; it is obligatory for students receiving “Licence” (in French) and for Economics major; it is optional for Business administration major.

Prerequisites: History of economic thought, European economic integration, International economics, Macroeconomics.

 

Course content:

Economic history is an interdisciplinary science combining to a large extent fundamental and applied research. Its methodology uses both abstract-theoretical and concrete historical approach and its results apply equally to the past, present and future.

 

The lectures in general economic history follow the main stages of the world economic history development with an emphasis on its economic interpretation, theoretical aspects and real results. Summing up the historical experience of mankind, economic history is a prerequisite for a more realistic evaluation of the near and more distant past, and of the modern development as well.

 

Intended learning outcomes:

Completing the course students will know the main aspects and specific features of the basic economic and globalization processes during the 18th to 20th century from the point of view of economic history as an interdisciplinary science.

 

The course will help students view objectively the development of economic history when analyzing and forecasting economic phenomena and processes related to their specialization.

This course reviews the main stages of the development of the economic history of Bulgaria with the emphasis placed on its economic interpretation, theoretical aspects and objective results. Summing up the historical experience of mankind, economic history is a prerequisite for a more realistic evaluation of the near and more distant past, and hence of contemporary development as well.

 

Intended learning outcomes:

Passing the course students will be aware of the main features and specifics of the main economic processes in Bulgaria during the 19th and 20th centuries within the context of the history of the regional economic development.

 

The course will help them have an objective view of the economic development of Bulgaria when analyzing and forecasting economic phenomena and processes, related to the students’ specialization.
