In the Rectorate’s Central Foyer a stamp validation ceremony dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of the oldest high academic institution in this country was held.
The event took place in the presence of rectors and representatives of foreign high academic schools, partners of Sofia University.
Professor Dr. habil Anastas Gerdzhikov, Rector of Sofia University, recalled the tradition of validating a postal stamp marking a jubilee. He thanked for the support lent by the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications and “Bulgarian Posts” who always supported Alma mater’s initiatives.
Mr Deyan Duneshki, Executive Director of “Bulgarian Posts”, said that it was an honour for him to attend the validation of a postal and philatelic edition dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The edition is a postal stamp, a vinette and a special postal seal with a circulation of 9 000 issues. The art designer is Zhaklina Simova.
Deyan Duneshki recalled that 55 years ago, in 1963 there appeared the first postal stamp dedicated to the oldest high academic institution in this country. The regular series showed the building which brought together our enthusiastic youth in the center of the country’s capital. He also mentioned that Bulgarian stamp issuing has always been known for its consistency in celebrating socially important events such as the anniversary of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The Executive Director of “Bulgarian Posts” added that when we talk of Sofia University, we always instinctively recall the images of the two brothers Christo and Evlogi Georgievs. In the past, on several occasions, they were honoured with issuing several postal and philatelic editions.
“It is a pleasure to say that the young artist Zhaklina Simova has made her debut in the domain of the postal miniature on such a relevant issue,” Deyan Duneski noted and congratulated all present on the new edition.
At the end of the ceremony Professor Anastas Gerdzhikov and Deyan Duneshki validated the stamp.
