The Degree Programme Bulgarian Philology prepares philologists (specialists in Bulgarian language and literature) in a wide area of study who can work as teachers at high schools, university lecturers, researchers in scientific institutes, journalists for various mass media, editors and collaborators in publishing houses, librarians, specialists for museums, archives, public institutions, etc.

The Faculty offers full-time and part-time education. As a result of the study the students acquire a teacher's certificate.
The education received is at two stages. The Bachelor's degree is acquired after completing a four-year study and taking a state final certification examination. The students can continue their education for the second - Master's of Arts Degree, which lasts a year and ends with defending a master's thesis.

Specialization of the Master's Degree can be done in the following areas:
• Linguistics
• Literature Studies
• Anthropology and Philology
• Interpreters and Editors
• Cyril and Methodius Studies in the Context of Byzantine Literature
• Computational Linguistics. Internet Technologies in the Humanities
• Bulgarian Language and Literature in the Secondary School
