The course in Civil Law contains the basic issues of the general part of civil law (topics 1 to 14). In a broad sense of the word it includes the main special units of civil law with emphasis on Contract law - general and specific part (topics 24 to 44). Contract law is essential for the development of theoretical and practical knowledge of the contractual relationship inherently necessary for the functioning of the economy, business transactions and civil society. Property rights and derivative rights are represented by introducing basic themes from Property law (topics 15 to 22). Family and Inheritance law are briefly presented with some basic issues (topics 45 to 49).

Course aim

The course aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills which will help them in dealing with civil and business cases. Students become familiar with basic issues of the Civil law (general part and special sections) and their practical dimension in the life of persons - natural and juridical persons.

The ultimate goal of the lectures is to prepare modern, qualified and broadly educated professionals who are familiar with representation, contract law, property and contractual rights and presentation of property claims for non-fulfillment.

An important objective of the Civil law course is to provide a solid ground for the Commercial law course which is taught during the second semester.

Intended learning outcomes

- Be able to apply in practice the acquired knowledge and in particular, to be able to prepare a letter of attorney, a contract according to circumstances, to follow the terms of exercise and protection of subjective civil rights; to handle arrangements for compensations for breach of contractual obligations; know how to set up collateral as surety, pledge and mortgage.
