Sofia University Rates Amongst the Top High Academic Institutions in Two International Ratings

Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” has kept its position among the best universities in the 2017 CWUR (Center for World University Rankings) released on 16th October, 2017 and of the 2018 QS EECA Region University Rankings.

Sofia University is among the top 3.1% in the university rankings of the 2017 Center for World University Rankings. It occupies the 856th position among the 27 770 high academic institutions assessed for the current academic year. The rating measures the quality of education and the students’ preparation, the prestige of faculty and their quality of research work, without relying on information data fed by the universities themselves.

In the evaluation of the top 1 000 world universities the Center for World University Rankings employs eight indicators, including the quality of education, the employment of its alumni, the quality of faculty, faculty publications in prestigious scientific journals, number of research works in influential journals, number of frequent citations of researches, overall impact, measured by the university h-index, as well as the number of patents according to the International Patent Office.

Sofia University ranks 47 in the rating of high academic institutions from Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the 2018 QS University Rankings: EECA. The University is among the best 1.6% among the 2 900 high academic institutions in the region.

The QS EECA Region University Rankings have been published since 2014. The methodology has retained the main QS University Rankings global indicators – academic reputation, prestige among employers and the student/ faculty ratio, indexed faculty publications, web impact, number of publication citations, the quality of faculty, foreign members of staff, and foreign students.
