The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, in partnership with the Economic Research Institute at BAS and the University of Reading, UK, won the largest funding for the implementation of a project in the scientific field of “Social Sciences" under the Bulgarian National Science Fund (BNSF) Competition for Fundamental Scientific Research.

Within 3 years, a team of 18 scientists and researchers are going to work on the project "Adapting the labour market to socio-economic dynamics, technological modernisation, demographic change, and educational restructuring in the context of euro area membership" Headed by Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Zlatinov.

The project aims to derive theoretically and empirically assess the medium-term and long-term relationship between the expected changes in economic activity in Bulgaria from the membership of the eurozone and the state of key indicators of the labour market, taking into account different scenarios of demographic development, the processes of digitalization of the economy, the adaptation of the education system and the resulting transformation from the green transition. In the framework of its development, it is also aimed to:

  • building an integrated model of the labor market by modeling the channels of the impact of the eurozone membership on the labour market;
  • analysis of the economic sectors and activities where positive and negative effects on the labour market are expected;
  • the development of macroeconomic, social, educational and demographic policies favoring the adaptation of the labour market to modern challenges;
  • making forecasts for the development of the labour market and forming conclusions about Bulgaria and the situation of the labour market in a comparative plan with other members of the euro area, taking into account the national specificities;
  • adaptation of the statistical methodology to the new realities of the labour market, including a review and analysis of available methodologies for the study of labour market processes in the conditions of the digital and green transition.
