On October 8 and 9 in an electronic environment was held the first module of the Academy of Business and Children's Rights, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ”and UNICEF Bulgaria. The event was officially opened by the Dean of FEBA Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev and Dr. Jane Muita, UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria. The participants from Sofia, Varna, Shumen and Zlatna Panega got acquainted with the global generally applicable Principles for the Protection of Children's Rights and the way the business works.


Over two days, participants discussed various options to take action to protect and support children in the workplace, in the marketplace and in the community. They tested elements of existing standards, discussed real examples and best practices. Each participant was able to prepare an independent impact assessment of their company so as to maximize the positive impacts and minimize the negative effects of their business on children.
Guest speakers from several Bulgarian organizations working for the realization of children's rights - National Network of Children, For Our Children and Together in Class, shared their experience in partnerships with business at the local level.

At the end of the second day, Ms. Elena Zaharieva, Director of Investor Relations, Herti AD and a participant in the Academy, said: “From the first module we learned many useful and interesting things that we will certainly apply in the region where we operate. We will look forward to the next modules."

The upcoming modules are:
- Module 2. UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development and Business Contribution - 5-6 November 2020
- Module 3. UNICEF and Business: Shared Partnerships - 3-4 December 2020
