The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will serve as both host and partner of the first National UN Youth Climate Conference (Local Conference of Youth – LCOY Bulgaria), which will take place on October 25–26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Faculty building.
The event is part of the global Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) network, officially recognized by YOUNGO – the Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It will be held for the first time in Bulgaria, organized by the “ManEco” Foundation in partnership with YES-Europe, Pangea, the National Youth Forum, AEGEE Sofia, and with the support of independent sustainability experts.
Key Themes of the Conference:
- Climate Adaptation
- Just Transition
- Decarbonization
The main goal of the event is to empower young people and encourage their active participation in Bulgaria’s sustainable green transition. Over the two-day program, participants will work in thematic groups to draft a new version of the National Youth Climate Statement – a document reflecting young people’s vision for the future of climate policy in Bulgaria.
The final version of the statement will be included in the Global Youth Position Paper and presented during the United Nations Climate Negotiations (COP) in Brazil.
The current working version of the statement outlines Bulgaria’s key challenges – from rising greenhouse gas emissions and the risks of extreme weather events to the urgent need for a just energy transition based on renewable resources, energy efficiency, and social responsibility. The updated version, to be developed during the conference, will include youth-driven recommendations and policies on adaptation, decarbonization, nature conservation, and youth participation in decision-making processes.
Through this partnership, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration reaffirms its commitment to innovation and education for green transformation, providing its academic expertise and a platform for youth dialogue on one of the most important issues of our time.
