On January 12, 2024, a team from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" presented the new master's program in English "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations" to the management of the “Kozloduy” NPP, as well as to managers and employees of the company, and the State Enterprise Radioactive Waste (SERAW) at the site of the plant. The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Assoc. Prof. Georgiev, the Dean of the Faculty of Physics Prof. Georgi Raynovski and the coordinator of the new program Assoc. Prof. Plamen Petkov, as well as the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of "Sustainability, Empowerment, and Engagement" Assoc. Prof. Marina Stefanova met with the Executive Director of “Kozloduy” NPP Mr. Valentin Nikolov and representatives of his team. They held a meeting in the information center of the plant.

Until January 31, 2024, applicants for the new 2-year master's program with pending accreditation by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) can submit online documents at https://feba.kmk.uni-sofia.bg/. The team that prepared the new program includes the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev, the Dean of the Faculty of Physics Prof. Georgi Raynovski and Assoc. Prof. Plamen Petkov from the Department of "General Physics" in the Faculty of Physics, as well as many full-time and part-time lecturers – internationally recognized practitioners in the respective fields of knowledge.

The program is in a part-time module format entirely in English, with a duration of 4 semesters, in direction 3.7 "Administration and management" and is suitable for both technical professionals and graduates of other majors. There is going to be also an official visit to finalize an accreditation procedure by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) within the framework of the International Nuclear Management Academy (INMA) initiative. The programs included in the INMA initiative are aimed at current and future managers working in the nuclear energy sector as well as for non-energy applications. INMA is part of the nuclear knowledge management activities of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy.

The new program was initiated by a team from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University and is the result of several years of preparation, including preliminary visits by the IAEA and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency to Sofia University and the city of Kozloduy. The start of the new program also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the existence of the Faculty of Physics as an independent unit in Alma Mater, as well as with the celebration of 135 years of top education in physics in the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria.
