During their two weeks in Luxembourg at the Bank’s headquarters, the students learned about the mission and activities of the EU’s climate bank through lectures and seminars taught by EIB Group staff members. EIB President Werner Hoyer welcomed the students and told them “I have a feeling we can learn as much from you as you will learn from us”.

This was the first EIB Summer School taking place at the EIB after two years of disruptions due to the pandemic and participants from six new universities joined the programme: Prague University of Economics and Business, Stockholm School of Economics, University of Bucharest, University of Coimbra, University of Helsinki and University of Latvia. Sofia University has been part of the program since 2020, when the EIB Institute also started annual lectures at FEBA with the participation of the leading experts and managers of the EIB and the EIF.

The other participants came from the College of Europe – Bruges and Natolin, ESADE Barcelona, London School of Economics, Sciences Po, TU Dresden, Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, University of Ljubljana, University of Luxembourg, University of Vienna and VU Amsterdam.

The EIB Summer School is a programme for graduate students who want to learn about the core activities and responsibilities of the EIB Group (European Investment Bank, EIB Global, European Investment Fund, EIB Institute). Organised every year in June/July in Luxembourg by the EIB Institute, it offers students first-hand insights about the EU Bank and one of the world’s main financiers of climate action, through lectures taught by EIB Group staff members.

The programme aims to foster long-term relationships and create a network of those interested in the future of Europe and beyond.

The EIB Summer School 2022 was also the occasion to organise the first EIB Summer School Alumni weekend during which participants from previous EIB Summer School met with the 2022 cohort. Since its first edition in 2018, 238 students from 18 universities from all over Europe have participated in the EIB Summer School. The programme aims to create a community of ambassadors of the EIB Group’s mission among these future potential stakeholders. It is reserved for all previous students of the EIB Summer School.
