The research project “Violence Against Women: Typologies, Economic and Social Consequences” is implemented by research teams from the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) – the coordinating institution, through the Centre for Sociological and Psychological Research at the Department of Economic Sociology, and Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – the partner institution, through its Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.
The project is funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund (BNSF) under Contract No. KP-06-N75/2 of 7 December 2023.
The main objective of the project is to expand fundamental knowledge about the typical forms of violence against women in Bulgaria and to analyze and assess their social and economic consequences. The research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the scope and manifestations of violence, as well as to inform the development of evidence-based public policies and interventions.
During the first phase of the project, the objectives, methodology, and key tasks were presented to students from the Social Work programme at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in April 2025.
Due to the high level of interest in the topic, the results achieved so far were presented on 21 October 2025, attracting members of the academic community, experts, and representatives of institutions working in the field of gender equality and the prevention of violence against women.
More information about the project and updates on its implementation can be found on this page.
