On March 16, 2026, Prof. Dr. Vera Katsarkova passed away. She was a distinguished lecturer and researcher in economic history at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with an outstanding contribution to establishing this discipline within the faculty’s academic programs. Her research interests included the economic development of Bulgaria and the Balkan countries, wartime economy (1915–1918), economic relations among the countries of Southeastern Europe and their comparative development, the works of prominent economists, and more.

Prof. Katsarkova was the author of monographs, studies, and articles, and participated in numerous collective publications. During her professional career, she specialized in Germany and worked at the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, at Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”, at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University, and at the University of National and World Economy. Her students and colleagues will always remember her selfless support, integrity, nobility, and her uncompromising stance against commercialization in society and human relationships.
